Faire Product Listing Optimization Guide: Field by Field

A field-by-field guide to optimizing Faire product listings: titles, descriptions, product types, images, pricing and case packs, variants and catalog availability, based on Faire's own guidance.

Every Faire listing has two jobs. It has to show up when a retailer searches, and it has to convince that retailer the product will sell in their shop. This guide goes through a listing one field at a time, using Faire's own published guidance wherever it exists.

Faire says optimised listings can improve search visibility, build retailer trust, improve conversion and reduce returns (Faire Help Center: How to make your products stand out). Start with the basics: make sure the name, description and images all describe the same item.

Product name (title)

Faire calls the title the strongest ranking signal (Faire Help Center).

  • Length: Faire's guidance ranges from 35–50 characters in its listing guide to 35–60 in its seasonal guide. Aim for a clear title in that range.
  • Structure: product type plus distinguishing details, such as colour, scent, material or style name.
  • Format: title case, correct spelling, no SKUs, no unrelated keywords.

Description

A good description helps Faire judge relevance and helps retailers decide. Structure it so a busy buyer can scan it:

  1. One or two sentences on what the product is and why customers buy it.
  2. Key facts: materials, dimensions, weight, scent notes, care.
  3. Retail context: who it's for, where it sells well, and display ideas.
  4. Anything that affects the order: packaging, shelf life, assembly.

If a new listing's description is under 50 characters, Faire may enhance it automatically with AI. Brands can review and undo these changes (Faire Help Center: AI product optimization). It's better to write a complete description yourself.

Product type and category

Faire matches searches against product type and category as well as title and description (Faire blog). Choose the most specific accurate option. Mis-categorised products can be missing from the browse pages where retailers expect them. On large ranges, keeping this consistent is a catalog optimization job.

Images

  • Main image: a clean, well-lit shot that reads at thumbnail size in search results.
  • Supporting images: scale, detail, packaging, and the product styled in a shop or home.
  • Consistency: a consistent look across your range helps the storefront feel professional.

Wholesale price, retail price and margin

Retailers buy for margin. Make sure the wholesale and suggested retail prices are accurate and the margin is obvious. Unclear pricing is one of the most common reasons a retailer hesitates. We look at this in Faire CRO.

Case packs and minimums

Pack sizes should suit how a small shop actually stocks a product. A case pack that's too large makes a first order feel risky. Offer pack sizes that make a trial order easy, especially on new or best-selling items.

Variants

Where it fits the product, group sizes and colours as variants of one listing instead of separate near-duplicate products. This keeps search results and your storefront tidier.

Catalog availability

Faire lists catalog availability as a core part of an optimised listing (Faire Help Center). Keep stock accurate, mark items unavailable promptly and retire discontinued products. Faire's ranking help also covers backorders and fulfilment timing (Faire Help Center), so accurate availability matters for more than customer service.

Seasonal refresh

Faire suggests refreshing titles, descriptions and collections each season to match how retailers merchandise. For example, it rewrites a chili powder's title for game-day season in winter and barbecue season in summer (Faire Help Center).

Listing checklist

  • Name, description and images all describe the same item
  • The title is clear, 35–60 characters, title case, with no SKU
  • The description covers benefit, facts, retail context and order details
  • The most specific accurate product type and category are set
  • The main image works at thumbnail size, with supporting images added
  • Wholesale price, retail price and margin are correct
  • Case packs make a first order easy
  • Variants are grouped where appropriate
  • Availability is accurate
  • Seasonal updates are planned
