How Faire Search Ranking Works: What Faire Has Actually Said

What Faire has publicly shared about its search and ranking: personalised results, more than 100 factors, and the three factor groups. Plus what brands can realistically do about it.

“How do I rank higher on Faire?” is one of the most common questions wholesale brands ask. You'll find plenty of confident answers online, but most of them are guesses. This article sticks to what Faire itself has published, and explains what that means in practice.

Faire search is personalised for each retailer

Faire says its search engine uses machine learning to give each retailer a customised experience. It considers more than 100 factors and produces results that are “personalized and unique to each retailer” (Faire Help Center: Understanding Search and Ranking on Faire).

That has a practical consequence: searching for your own products tells you very little. Faire says directly that your results won't match what retailers see. Measure progress through views and orders in your brand portal instead.

The three factor groups Faire describes

Faire hasn't published its 100+ factors, and anyone who claims to know them is guessing. It has, however, described three broad groups (Faire blog: 5 tips to increase your brand's visibility):

  1. Product names, descriptions and categories. These are how Faire works out which searches your products are relevant to.
  2. Retailers' prior activity and engagement. This is what each retailer has browsed, favourited and bought, and it is why results differ between retailers.
  3. Brand performance. This is how reliably your brand turns interest into good orders.

Group 1: Relevance from your product information

Faire says retailer search terms are matched against your product title, description, product type and category. Exact matches are prioritised, and synonyms and related items follow (Faire blog). In a later help article, Faire calls product titles the strongest ranking signal (Faire Help Center: seasonal listing refresh).

This is the group you control most directly, and it's what our Faire SEO guide and product listing guide focus on.

Group 2: Retailer behaviour

You can't control what a retailer has browsed before. You can make your brand worth engaging with: a clear storefront, a strong first image and products that suit the retailers you want. Retailers who favourite or order from you are likely to be shown your products again. That's why Faire storefront optimization matters for discovery as well as conversion.

Group 3: Brand performance

Faire's ranking help article includes sections on whether returns, missing or damaged items, order cancellations, review ratings, backorders and fulfilment timing affect ranking (Faire Help Center). It addresses each one directly, so treat operational reliability as part of visibility. Read the current version of that article for Faire's exact wording, because Faire says it updates its ranking model and the article over time.

Faire's Top Shop program shows the same priorities. Its badge criteria include a merchandising score, order volume and retailer rating, and the badge can help a brand stand out in search (Faire Help Center: Top Shop program). Programs and their availability vary by region.

What this means for your brand

  • Fix what's in your control first: titles, descriptions, product types, categories and images.
  • Keep listings fresh: Faire recommends seasonal updates to titles and collections (Faire Help Center).
  • Protect brand performance: accurate stock, on-time shipping and careful packing all count.
  • Don't chase myths: stuffing keywords or renaming products constantly isn't supported by anything Faire has published.
  • Measure in the portal: not by searching for yourself.

Common myths

“More keywords in the title ranks you higher.” Faire's guidance asks for concise titles with no unrelated keywords (Faire Help Center: How to make your products stand out).

“There's a secret setting that boosts ranking.” Faire hasn't described one. Relevance, retailer engagement and performance are the stated levers.

“If I can't see my product, it's not ranking.” Results are personalised, so your view isn't the retailer's view.

Next steps

A Faire audit is the quickest way to see which of the three groups is holding you back. If relevance is the gap, Faire SEO and Faire product optimization address it directly. If visits aren't turning into orders, start with Faire CRO.
